Starbucks sets its sights on Georgia

Starbucks Corporation is expanding its presence in the Georgian coffee market.

The company is building a coffee processing plant in the nation’s capital, Tbilisi, and opening a chain of coffee houses under its brand within the nation on the Black Sea.

The Tbilisi Government has already reached a preliminary agreement with Starbucks, while a final contract is expected to be signed soon.

Under the terms of the agreement, the new plant will be built close to one of the Georgia’s busiest highways, the Kakheti, in the suburbs of Tbilisi.

To date, the company has already completed a feasibility study of the project and is awaiting permission from the Tbilisi authorities for the beginning of construction works.

Financial details of the project have not been disclosed. However, according to some sources close to the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, it is likely to be in the range of US$40-50 million.
