Brazil coffee production falls 10 per cent

Brazilian coffee production is expected to fall 10 per cent in the 2011/2012 crop year, according to International Coffee Organisation (ICO) reports.

The second official estimate of Brazilian production in 2011/12 was 43.5 million bags, compared to 48 million bags in the previous crop year. The ICO
reported, however, that this production level is the highest ever recorded for an off year in the biennial cycle characterising Arabica production.

The report noted that exports by all exporting countries during the month of April totalled 9.7 million bags, bringing the cumulative total for the first seven months of the coffee year 2010/11 to 62.7 million bags, compared to 53.7 million bags in the previous period.
