Brazilian Minasul Cooperative to hold specialty coffee micro-lot auction

Brazilian Cooperative Minasul has announced it will auction 600 bags of its highest scoring specialty coffee on Bean Auction from 5 to 9 November 2018.

Minasul says the auction will give its members the chance to earn a fair price for their top coffees and incentivise investment at a time when the coffee market is close to multi-year lows.

“I’ve been heavily involved with organising the contest this year and everyone is very excited to present some of the best coffees we’ve seen in our history to our clients and partners around the world,” says Maria Claudia Porto, International Relations at Minasul Cooperative.

Auction prices start from US$1.80 per pound to $3.30 per pound.

Founded in 1958, Minasul has more than 6000 coffee producer members and annual revenues of over US$250 million. For the past 26 years, Minasul has run an annual competition identifying then selling the best quality coffees produced by its members.

Minasul pre-finances the coffees on auction, meaning producers receive an advance at above market rates for auctioned coffee. After the auction, the farmers receive a second payment. The auction does not disrupt farmers cash flow.

Any roaster in Europe and the United States who wins an auction lot can pay after it’s delivered. For roasters in Europe, Minasul Europe will assist with logistics costs and other questions.

Bean Auction is an online subscription service that facilitates direct access to international markets and helps buyers easily find coffee they want.

“I’m looking forward to the auction and [am] confident about Minasul’s ability to deliver exceptional qualities,” says Tom Carew, Founder of Bean Auction.
