Caribou Coffee unveils takeaway-focused store concept

American chain Caribou Coffee is attempting to challenge conventional store design with its newest concept, Caribou Cabins.

These “Little Blue Cabin” stores are designed to match the modern, fast paced lifestyle, foregoing seating in order to focus on takeaway orders.

Caribou Coffee says the concept will provide a unique experience for customers, with no interior seating, but instead, windows for both drive-through and walk-up orders. The idea arose when President and CEO John Butcher was attempting to innovate in a way that would appeal to a modern consumer base that values convenience and speed.

“We are confident that our new Cabin concept will differentiate us even more by delivering customers the highest quality coffee, expanded beverage innovation and ownable guest interaction that only Caribou can deliver,” Butcher says.

Each Little Blue Cabin will take an inside-out approach to hiring, training baristas they believe embody the Caribou culture. Team members will go through a range of training modules aptly title “Bou-Bonfires” and aim to create a cosy, unique experience.

Cabin’s will offer bakery items and breakfast sandwiches in addition to an extended drinks menu, including the new Caribou Bou-sted drinks range. Five cabins are set to launch within the coming months, with more expected to follow.
