Global Coffee Platform partners with Rainforest Alliance

The Global Coffee Platform (GCP) and Rainforest Alliance have signed a five year partnership to support national coffee platforms in producing countries. The agreement was made at the Global Coffee Sustainability Conference 2018 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on 8 November.

“We need to capitalise on each other’s strengths. GCP and the Rainforest Alliance believe that aligning at global and national level will set a new bar in the way we should work together on coffee sustainability,” says Rogier Eijkens, GCP Director of Programs.

The agreement pursues the consolidation of national coffee platforms as facilitators of multi-stakeholder dialogues in different coffee producing countries.

At a global scale, the Rainforest Alliance and GCP will also organise regular strategic sessions to promote exchange and learning between National Coffee Platforms in producing countries.

Both organisations say they will identify opportunities at country level to support collective action among coffee stakeholders and members based on priority issues.

The partnership agreement will last five years, starting from the 1 January 2019. The organisations expect their collective work to be a key contribution towards a more sustainable coffee sector.
