Starbucks has announced the latest expansion of Starbucks Delivers to five new United States markets – Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix, Philadelphia, and New Jersey – as well as further expansion in the New York Metro.
The delivery program, which launched as a pilot with Uber Eats in late 2018, is now available in 16 major US markets and will reach national availability in early 2020. Read more
Nespresso has announced the launch of Cafecito de Puerto Rico, its first Puerto Rican coffee, available exclusively to United States consumers.
As the newest addition to the Reviving Origins program, Nespresso says this limited-edition coffee highlights the natural earthiness of Puerto Rico’s coffee beans. Since 2018, Nespresso has been working with the Hispanic Federation and coffee farmers in Puerto Rico to help revitalise their coffee crop after hurricanes Maria and Irma destroyed 80 per cent of the island’s coffee trees and harvest. The fourth edition of the Independent Barcelona Coffee Festival designed to celebrate and promote specialty coffee will take place from 31 October to 2 November 2019.
The event will be held at the venue Utopia 126 for the first time, in order to cater for an expected growth in attendance. More than 7000 coffee enthusiasts attended last year’s festival. Read more
Italian roaster illycaffè has announced Spirit of Peace Ex-Combatants of Asacafè as the Best of the Best at the fourth annual Ernesto Illy International Coffee Award, in New York City.
An independent jury of nine culinary and coffee connoisseurs from around the world gathered on 15 October for a series of blind coffee tastings, brewed individually from the harvests of 27 growers from nine countries, to determine the best bean of the 2018-19 season. Read more
Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has announced that a Sensory Summit will be its first event of the 2020 Sensory Program and will run from 30 January to 1 February 2020.
The two-day conference is designed to educate, inform, and inspire specialty coffee sensory professionals. It will return to the purpose-built Sensory Theatre, inside the Robert Mondavi Institute, at the UC Davis in the United States. Read more
