The European Union (EU) imported three million tonnes of coffee in 2018, valued around US$8.5 billion according to a study by Eurostat.
Germany was the largest importer, bringing in 1.1 million tonnes, which made up 36 per cent of overall imports. Italy followed with 587,000 tonnes, or 19 per cent of overall coffee imports. Read more
American coffee chain Scooter’s Coffee has announced its plans to acquire the Omaha-based Crane Coffee.
Scooter’s Coffee intends to add Crane Coffee’ eight locations in Omaha, six free-standing and two located in hospitals, to its portfolio of more than 230 locations in 15 states and 200 franchise commitments. Read more
Starbucks Korea has announced the expansion of its profit-sharing Community Store program, with a second location to open in the first half of 2020 and more to follow.

From 18 to 22 October, Italian trade fair Host Milano is set to host the entire Hotel, Restaurant, and Catering (HoReCa) industry in one exhibition.
Host Milano says this is backed up not only by the figures, which confirm the continual growth of the sector, but the number of companies exhibiting at the show. A total of 2249 exhibitors, 1360 Italian and 889 international from 55 countries, will be on display. Read more
