Cropster appoints coffee industry veteran as Demand Generation Manager

Coffee industry veteran Marcus Young has joined coffee software solution specialist Cropster as its new Demand Generation Manager for Education, Content and Event Creation.

“I am excited to help people expand their knowledge of coffee and how technology can help them, regardless of their role in the specialty coffee industry. I have personally worked with Cropster’s solutions in a variety of roles. I look forward to showcasing the value of Cropster’s tools that seamlessly integrate quality steps from lot separation on farms through recipe sharing in cafes, and everything in between. I’m especially excited about Cropster’s latest eCommerce integration for web stores. Pulling order and inventory management, roasting insight, and quality control together into one place gives roasters more tools to build successful, efficient, and sustainable companies,” Young says.

Young has been in the coffee industry for nearly 20 years, spending the last five years Boot Coffee Campus as a trainer, director, and consultant, teaching nearly 300 roasters and cuppers each year. He has consulted with roasters, retailers, and coffee producers to grow their businesses through continuing coffee education and experimentation, customer engagement, and coffee-centric events. He is a certified Q Grader and Authorised Specialty Coffee Association Trainer.

Young’s extensive experience includes work as a trader, buyer, roaster, and barista. As the Director of Business Operations for Sustainable Harvest Coffee Importers, he helped to build a successful roasting business in Rwanda and worked on behalf of farmers and cooperatives on quality control and market access initiatives. Young also co-founded Central City Coffee, a social enterprise coffee company providing employment and on-the-job training for employees who were previously homeless. Young has been a head judge for the United States Barista Competition, overseen the US Cup Tasters Championship, and now produces natural wine by applying his interest in sensory analysis.

In the Demand Generation Manager role, Young will work with Cropster’s partners, customers, and coffee experts worldwide to help expand and grow coffee expertise across Cropster and the industry, as a part of our mission to deliver better, fairer and more sustainable coffee.

“The depth and breadth of Marcus’ experience across coffee from farms in Africa through roasteries and cafes in the US, make him a unique fit for Cropster. His well established talents for sharing his experience and expertise with people across the industry are exactly what we need, as we strive to provide more resources to our customers and the specialty industry,” says Norbert Niederhauser, CEO of Cropster Inc. “His experience will help Cropster, its customers, partners, and friends expand and grow their knowledge and appreciation of great coffee.”
