Uganda lifts coffee export forecasts

Ugandan web site New Vision reported on 8 August that the Uganda Coffee Development Authoriy (UCDA) has lifted its coffee export forecast to 2.8 million 60kg bags for the 2010/2011 harvesting year.

The report noted that the lift in expectations followed just months after the UCDA had scaled down its estimate owing to drought. The lift followed unexpectedly good harvest.

At the end of June, the UCDA had reported that 370,924 60kg bags of coffee worth $57.95 million to exported in the month, representing a 58 per cent rise in volume. With the increased price of green beans, the export also represented a 152 per cent rise in value.
