Specialty Coffee Expo kicks off

The Specialty Coffee Expo is underway, running from the 30 September to 3 October in the New Orleans, United States.

Hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), the expo is one of the largest specialty coffee events, with attendees given the chance to reconnect with each other and learn about the newest coffee products and trends.

On 30 September the expo started strong with its first networking session, the Discover Expo. The SCA announced the 2021 Best New Product finalists, with winners to be announced 2 October.

Judging for the Coffee Design Awards are also ongoing with the winners also to be announced on 2 October.

Coinciding with the Speciality Coffee Expo is the launch of the SCA’s Coffee Sensory and Cupping Handbook, which contains more than 30 years of scientific advancements in the field of sensory science.

SCA will be hosting two author sessions, one online and one onsite at the Expo on International Coffee Day on 1 October. The online session will run from 11am to 11:30am CDT time and will be hosted by Mario Roberto Fernández-Alduenda.

The on-site session will be held from 11:30am to 12:30pm by Peter Giuliano at the SCA store at the Specialty Coffee Expo.

Election season is also now on with the Barista, Coffee Roasters, and Coffee Technicians Guilds all looking for new members to join their leadership councils.

Nominations will remain open until 4 October, with nominees announced 1 November. Voting will take place from 22 November to 6 December with new leadership members announced 10 December.
